Welcome to Insectography, a group dedicated to nature and wildlife photography, specialising in macro photography and invertebrates. Please take a moment to join and browse the galleries, read our blogs and submit your own photographs! Please remember, this is a place to learn and share our photographs and knowledge, so I'd like to ask our members to be open about techniques, settings, equipment etc, and for our less experienced members to not be worried about asking questions, no matter how silly they may seem to you! We all need to start somewhere, and hopefully this will be the place to inspire and help you achieve a standard of photography you are happy with!

Please take a moment to read our rules (…) and start submitting!
Hello! Just a quick reminder about submission guidelines.

When submitting, please try to submit to the correct folder. I understand that you may not be sure what the bug is exactly, but I get a few submissions in "ants" that are photos of spiders, etc. So please have a think and decide what you think it is most likely to be. I don't expect everything to be submitted perfectly, we are all always learning, and I will not mind if things are submitted incorrectly as long as it looks like you've put the effort in to try!

If you are submitting specifically because you want to know what something is, please submit to the IDing folder, where we will do our best to figure out what it is! Once we have established this, it will be moved to the relevant folder.

Also I understand the language barrier may not be a problem, as not everyone in this group speaks English. However it seems a bit pointless to mention that, because you cannot read this. :p

The full list of rules can be found here…

Have a nice weekend, everyone!

Group Info

This is a group focused primarily on photography of insects, though we love all nature and have other folders for other animals, plants, etc!

Hopefully, as this group grows, it can be used not only as a place for photography, but also a place for insect identification, sharing techniques, equipment chat, etc! So whether you just like taking the photos, or are an insect enthusiast, this group will be for you!

Suggestion !!

Today I submitted a photo of an insect that, to me, looked like some sort of dragonfly. It was declined because it apparently was not a a dragonfly after all. I was asked to submit it to the "flies" folder. Well I can't, because my limit for the week has maxed out.

For the same effort, the administrator could have just moved it to the correct file and all would have been sorted.  I will not remember to submit the pic in a weeks time so the pic is lost to the group.

This is just a suggestion and would streamline the process for the benefit of all concerned. This group is very good in that  you take the time to tell members the reason for a pic being declined .

Just a thought for consideration.

Unfortunately the groups founder and Administrator has abandoned the Deviant Art and is not contactable.
I have very limited administration rights and they don't stretch as far as moving submissions to different folders.
This is one reason why I try to keep on top of what goes in each folder. Once it's in that is it! It becomes an
immovable object.

I will submit the image and if you accept, it will be in in the twinkling of an eye... I hope. :)
