Welcome to Insectography, a group dedicated to nature and wildlife photography, specialising in macro photography and invertebrates. Please take a moment to join and browse the galleries, read our blogs and submit your own photographs! Please remember, this is a place to learn and share our photographs and knowledge, so I'd like to ask our members to be open about techniques, settings, equipment etc, and for our less experienced members to not be worried about asking questions, no matter how silly they may seem to you! We all need to start somewhere, and hopefully this will be the place to inspire and help you achieve a standard of photography you are happy with!

Please take a moment to read our rules (…) and start submitting!
Hello! Just a quick reminder about submission guidelines.

When submitting, please try to submit to the correct folder. I understand that you may not be sure what the bug is exactly, but I get a few submissions in "ants" that are photos of spiders, etc. So please have a think and decide what you think it is most likely to be. I don't expect everything to be submitted perfectly, we are all always learning, and I will not mind if things are submitted incorrectly as long as it looks like you've put the effort in to try!

If you are submitting specifically because you want to know what something is, please submit to the IDing folder, where we will do our best to figure out what it is! Once we have established this, it will be moved to the relevant folder.

Also I understand the language barrier may not be a problem, as not everyone in this group speaks English. However it seems a bit pointless to mention that, because you cannot read this. :p

The full list of rules can be found here…

Have a nice weekend, everyone!

Group Info

This is a group focused primarily on photography of insects, though we love all nature and have other folders for other animals, plants, etc!

Hopefully, as this group grows, it can be used not only as a place for photography, but also a place for insect identification, sharing techniques, equipment chat, etc! So whether you just like taking the photos, or are an insect enthusiast, this group will be for you!

If this is a group about insects, why are there folders for animals, flowers, pics of cameras, and even people? Just curious. I have not seen this in any other groups so it made me wonder. :confuzzled:

The groups founder was interested in more than just insects. I believe he just wanted people who liked insects to get together and share their diversity as well as common interest.
Unfortunately the group didn't take off in the way he anticipated and soon after starting it he ceased contributing to or even visiting DA.

Sorry to hear that. There seems to be a lot of people here starting groups and leaving them. Some leaving them and leaving no one in charge of the group as well, so no one can make decisions for the group at all. Looks like Deviant Art would delete the groups that are not active instead of just leaving them.

We would all be better served if it were slightly harder to start a group. And perhaps that some sort of provision or stipulation were made
that in the event of the founder or founders losing interest the group should be wound up or handed on in an organised way. As things are
everything is haphazard and slapdash with no real thought given to why a group should even exist or cease to exist. Running a group is
quite a responsibility, I would equate it to caring for a pet. Perhaps both should require a licence and a qualification. Roll Eyes

I'd like to get an insect identified, but the photo of it is already in the group. Do I remove it and resubmit?

It's a Snakefly, order Raphidioptera. Impossible to pin it down precisely in black and white.

Ooh, cool, thank you so much. :handshake:
