For those less experienced macro photographers, and other members / watchers who may be interested in getting in to macro photography! This guide by Tom Hicks explains how you start your macro journey without ultra-expensive lenses. It explains diopters, extension tubes, and teleconverters (extenders) which will allow you to get that little bit extra out of your lenses. This guide is written for DSLR cameras.
But don't forget, compacts also have macro functions! The macro setting will look like a little flower, and others will have a digital macro as a seperate option. If you do not have a DSLR, a compact cameras macro setting is a good way to get involved and get started!

Submission guidelines
Hello! Just a quick reminder about submission guidelines.
When submitting, please try to submit to the correct folder. I understand that you may not be sure what the bug is exactly, but I get a few submissions in "ants" that are photos of spiders, etc. So please have a think and decide what you think it is most likely to be. I don't expect everything to be submitted perfectly, we are all always learning, and I will not mind if things are submitted incorrectly as long as it looks like you've put the effort in to try!
If you are submitting specifically because you want to know what something is, please submit to the IDing folder, where we wil
Super Group!
The group has been upgraded to supergroup status! Any suggestions / feedback on the new layout is appreciated, tell us what you do and don't like about it, and what you feel could be added to make it better!
I would like to try and get members of this group interacting with each other, so there will be a lot more polls and journals to get us all talking. If you have an idea about a journal or a poll, please suggest it! While we are doing a great job of sharing our photos, I'd like to push the learning side a bit more! So keep asking questions! Also remember, advice is just that, it doesn't have to be followed. If you are happy with your phot
What got you into macro photography?
Hello, members! I'm not on dA so much these days but I wanted to ask, what got you into macro photography? What got you interested in insects?
I imagine the majority of us are both photography and nature enthusiasts, which came first for you?
Thank you!
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for supporting our group, whether it be through watching, joining, contributing, or all three!
We have a great gallery, full of variety. There are fantastic photos in there, and hopefully people will be inspired to go out and look for the smaller creatures we share the planet with.
Remember, if you have just stumbled across this group and think you'd like to start doing some macro photography, or feel you want to improve, please ask! I am happy to offer advice, and I am sure our members will be as well. This is a place for sharing and learning, so please do not hesitate to ask.
And always remember, a
